ABOUT ME
Michaela Smith
BSc. | BMedSciHons in Dietetics | SACLC
I am a South African born Specialist paediatric Dietitian currently living and working in London.

I have always had a passion for paediatrics, as I love working with children and I feel that I am pursuing my calling by trying to help as many families as I can, however I am able to. I strive to be the best health professional that I can be, and my goal is to make a difference in people's lives.
I completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology and Genetics in 2017 through University of Cape Town, for which I graduated with distinction. It was within my undergraduate degree that I discovered my love for Nutrition and Dietetics - as I strongly believe in preventative medicine through optimising nutritional status, and when better than to start in infancy and childhood!

I then completed an Honours degree (equivalent of a UK Masters degree) in Human Nutrition and Dietetics in 2019 through University of Cape Town, where I developed a special interest in paediatric and neonatal nutrition, as well as lactation support. I decided that I wanted to broaden my skillset in order to better serve my patients, and I qualified as a South African Certified Lactation Consultant (SACLC) in 2020 through WITS University.

Since then, I worked for a year in South Africa, and then immigrated to the UK, at which point I started to work in the NHS; where I have worked at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Northwick Park Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital - a world renowned specialist children's hospital. In my various roles, I have gained substantial experience in a variety of specialities and conditions including Premature Infants, Breastfeeding Support, Congenital Heart Disease, Coeliac Disease, Faltering Growth, Allergy, Fussy Eating and more. Currently, I work at Evelina London Children's hospital, where I have specialised as a Neonatal Dietitian.

I have recently opened a private practice to provide after hours consultations to patients that require more urgent support or those that are unable to be seen within the NHS.
